My words, thoughts and photos from a Swedish perspective

The Katarina Elevator (Katarinahissen)

The first elevator connecting Slussen (“The lock”) and Mosebacke was opened in the late 19th century and used steam (!) for its machinery. The current elevator was built in the 30’s when Slussen was undergoing a drastic change. The elevator has lost its original function today and economists have questioned whether it is right to keep it, but it is still a  kind of landmark. Many tourists and visitors use the elevator to enjoy the view from the bridge over to Mosebacke or to enjoy a meal at (the posh) Restaurant Gondolen.

Someone decided to decorate the old elevator for Christmas. I cannot remember that it has been done before and I must say that I like the result.
