My words, thoughts and photos from a Swedish perspective

Two squares – only a few steps away from each other

The photographic expedition began at Brunkebergs torg simply because I happened to be right there. It is a square and has been so for ages, but its function has changed through the years. Now it is just a spot people pass by on their way to or from something and it is a rather dark square. Things have, however, improved lately because the trees in the “mini-park” between the lanes have got various kinds of lights. This makes it at least look nicer and a little exciting as well.

Sergels torg is only a few steps away from Brunkebergs torg but this square is a different story. It is much larger, of course, and it is flooded with lights and crowded with department stores, shops, people, buses, cars etc. The Christmas market once began on the square’s “ground floor” but it has grown with time so they now need the streets as well to accommodate all the stands.

People may have different opinions about this, but the Christmas market doesn’t bother me at all. I think that we sometimes need a break from our usual routines and habits. It will be gone in a couple of weeks, so why not enjoy it while we can?
